Hans Zimmer může být považován za špičku ve svém oboru. Narodil se 12. září 1957 v Německu. Když bylo Zimmerovi 6 let, zemřel mu otec. Zimmer se k tomu v rozhovoru pro CNN vyjádřil takto: "Tehdy jsem se rozhodl brát hudbu opravdu vážně, protože se stala mým útočištěm. Byl to způsob kterým jsem zklidnil své vnitřní démony nebo je naopak nechal řvát, trhat a pouštěl to monstrum ven, abych viděl že není tak strašidelné podívat se mu do očí." Jako teenager se přestěhoval kvůli škole do Londýna, který byl tou dobou kolébkou Rokenrolu.

Na začátku 80. let se stal asistentem filmového skladatele Stanleyho Myerse, který ho začal zasvěcovat do světa filmové hudby a nechal ho psát. Společně založili studio Lillie Yard a začali pracovat na spojení tradičního orchestrálního zvuku s elektronickými nástroji. Spolupracovali na filmech jako Success is the Best Revenge (1984), My Beautiful Laundrette (1985). První samostatná tvorba Zimmera byla pro film Terminal Exposure, režiséra Nica Mastorakise (1987).
První velký úspěch v oblasti filmové hudby Zimmer zaznamenal v roce 1988, když byl požádán režisérem Barry Levinsonem o napsání hudby k oskarovému filmu Rain Man. Za ni získal svou první nominaci. Rok na to složil hudbu k dalšímu, Oskarem oceněnému filmu Řidič slečny Daisy. Na začátku 90. let byl právem považován za velmi talentovaného filmového skladatele. A brzy byl za svou práci oceněn, když svou třetí nominaci na Oskara proměnil za hudbu k filmu Lví Král (1994) a navíc si za tento film připsal i Zlatý Glóbus, cenu Tony a dvě Grammy. Následovaly filmy Krvavý příliv (1995), Tenká červená linie (1998), Prince of Egypt. V roce 2000 pak složil k filmu Gladiátor, která mu vynesla další Zlatý Glóbus a nominaci na Oskara (tenhle soundtrack jsem poslouchala snad 100krát a stále není ohraný). Ten samý rok poprvé živě vystoupil se 100 členným orchestrem na 27. mezinárodním filmovém festivalu v Ghentu. Dodnes složil filmovou hudbu k více než 100 filmům - jeho 100 filmem se stal Poslední Samuraj, za který opět obdržel Zlatý Glób. V posledních letech byl spojen s batmanovskou trilogií Christophera Nolana. V roce 2010 obdržel svou vlastní hvězdu na Hollywoodském chodníku slávy. Příští rok se můžeme těšit na jeho hudbu ve filmu Superman - Man of Steel. Já jsem si teď nejvíc pouštěla soundtrack k filmu Temný rytíř povstal a Počátek (živý koncert na premiéře tohoto filmu je úžasný). At the beginning of 80s he took a job as an assistant of Stanley Myers, film music composer. Myers took him into the world of film music and even let him write his own stuff. Together they founded Lillie Yard studio and started working on combining traditional orchestral sound with electronic instruments. They worked together on film scores for Success is the Best Revenge (1984), My Beautiful Launderette (1985). Zimmer's first solo work was for the movie Terminal Exposure directed by Nico Mastorakise (1987).
First big success came in 1988, when asked by Barry Levinson, Zimmer wrote music for Academy award winner movie Rain Man. Zimmer was nominated for best score, but didn't win. Year later he composed music for Driving Miss Daisy, movie which won Academy Award for Best Picture. So by the early 90s, Zimmer was considered as a very talented film composer. And soon he was honoured for his work when he won an Oscar for The Lion King (1994). For this movie score he also won a Golden Globe, Tony Award and two Grammys. Crimson Tide (1995), The Thin Red Line (1998) and The Prince of Egypt were movies that followed. In 2000 Zimmer won his Golden Globe for Gladiator and was nominated for Academy Award (I've listened to this soundtrack 100 times and it never gets old :)). Same year he performed live for the first time with 100-member orchestra at the 27th International Film Festival in Ghent. This concert was recorded and released on CD called The Wings of Film: The Music by Hans Zimmer (available on Amazon, iTunes, well who will wont it will find it :))
To this day Zimmer composed music for more than 100 films - his 100 one was The Last Samurai, for which he won a Golden Globe. For the past years he has been linked to Nolan's Batman trilogy. In 2010 received his own star on the Hollywood walk of fame. Next year we will hear his work in the Superman - Man of Steel and we can definitely be excited about that one. I've been listening to The Dark Knight Rises and Inception (live concert at the premiere of the movie is amazing) scores.
